Annerley Labor celebrates year of achievement

Annerley Branch members gathered to elect a new executive, officebearers and delegates for the forthcoming year at their 2011 Annual General Meeting, held recently at the popular Thai Kanjana Restaurant.

In presenting the annual report to members, Branch Secretary, Rod Beisel, reflected on the successes of the previous 12 months. “Our Branch has recorded some fantastic achievements over the past year. Not only did we continue to grow, but we witnessed record member participation levels and a record amount of funds raised”, he said.

“2010/11 would definitely have to be one of our most successful years since our Branch was formed over ten years ago, in March 2001”.

Members congratulated Greg McPhee who received the Annerley Branch Member Appreciation Award for 2010/2011 as well as other members who were recognised for their activism over the past year.

Also, for the first time, recipients of the inaugural Red Ribbon Awards were announced, with Lisa McKinney-Smith winning the award for women and Giovanni Sottile taking out the award for youth. The Red Ribbon Awards were established to recognise the activism of women and younger members of the Branch.

The Branch also decided, for the first time, to affiliate jointly with both the Tennyson MEC and the Moorooka MEC.
