Branch News Update - March 2011

Federal Labor urged to retain support for renewable energy

The Annerley Branch has resolved to call on the Gillard Government to retain its commitment to renewable energy spending. Members, concerned over moves to reduce funding for renewable energy as part of the introduction of the recently passed Flood Levy, were adamant that the Federal Labor Government should not dilute its existing policy.

The resolution also questioned the Government’s blind adherence to returning the budget to surplus, ‘at all costs’, by 2013.

Branch congratulates Simon Finn

Members of the Annerley Branch have expressed their congratulations to recently appointed Queensland Minister for Government Services, Building Industry and ICT, Simon Finn MP.
Simon was appointed in last month’s reshuffle, caused by the unexpected retirements of long serving MP’s Robert Schwarten and Desley Boyle.

Many Branch members were overjoyed to hear that their hard working local MP had been recognised for his abilities.

Clean Up Australia Day a great success

Branch members were out in force at this year’s Clean Up Australia Day which was held Sunday 6th March. Helping out the Laura Street Park in Tarragindi, members of the Annerley Branch joined with members of the local community for what has become a very popular community event.

Local Brisbane City Councillor, Steve Griffiths, was also on hand to assist, as our keen volunteers left no piece of rubbish to be seen!
