Branch News Update - July 2013

Branch gears up for election fight

Annerley Branch members have stepped up local efforts to help retain the federal seats of Griffith and Moreton for the Australian Labor Party. Increasing their presence 'on the hustings', the number of volunteers for the two local seats held by Kevin Rudd and Graham Perrett respectively, has climbed dramatically over the past few weeks.

And its not just supporters who are reacting positively to a revitalised Labor Party. Local voters are certainly indicating their support as well.

Feedback on street stalls, from door-knocking and from community BBQ's has been very encouraging as voters respond to Labor's message on the economy, jobs, superannuation, the NDIS, health, education, the NBN, and the environment.

"Labor is the only Party in this election that is presenting a positive agenda for our future", one local resident told Annerley Branch Gazette recently. "I wasn't sure how I was going to vote, however, Kevin (Rudd) has helped make my mind up", he said.

The Annerley Branch plans to extend its campaign assistance over the coming weeks as the federal election looms. Community Bookshop thanks Branch

The Annerley Community Bookshop has formally thanked Branch members for their 'ongoing practical support' over the past year. In a recent letter to the Annerley Branch, local Bookshop and Neighbourhood Centre president, Naomi Frampton, acknowledged the strong support of members, noting that their assistance was valuable in ensuring the bookshop could carry out its community programs.

Over the past 12 months, Yeerongpilly ALP spokesperson, Cam Crowther, and the Annerley Branch helped organise a wine and cheese night fundraiser for the bookshop as well as a book drive to help provide much needed books for the Centre.
