Queensland Shadow Cabinet visits Yeerongpilly

Yeerongpilly Labor spokesperson, Cam Crowther, recently hosted the State Labor Shadow Cabinet on a visit to the state seat of Yeerongpilly to see first hand the impact of LNP budget cuts on local services.

Cam took Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk, Deputy Leader Tim Mulherin and Transport spokesperson Jackie Trad to visit local public transport hubs and the Yeronga Community Centre.

The Yeronga Community Centre was established by the State Labor Government after the 2011 floods as a focal point for community recovery and a community support network.

Since then, the LNP has cut its funding and threatened further cuts in coming budgets.  "It is impossible for Centre staff to plan their future with the LNP's axe hanging over their heads," Cam said. "Clients of the Centre have already suffered enough and live with the worry and uncertainty of what the weather might do. Further uncertainty about whether their Centre will remain open is the last thing they need."

Centre staff Fiona and Melinda showed Tim, Jackie and Cam recently completed renovations of the building and gardens, including the fencing, guttering and landscaping Cam organised on behalf of Yeerongpilly Labor using donated materials and volunteer labour. During the visit, Annastacia, Jackie and Cam also brought local bus service cuts to the attention of the local media, City South News.

Yeerongpilly is one of the most marginal seats in Queensland, and will be key to rebuilding Labor's stocks in State politics.  The visit to Yeerongpilly by State Labor Shadow Cabinet demonstrates strong support for the hard work being done by Yeerongpilly Labor led by spokesperson, Cam Crowther.

Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk has also agreed to return to Yeerongpilly on 26 March to meet local ALP members at a Yeronga Branch fundraiser.

  1. Well done Cam for highlighting how LNP cuts can and do affect the residents of Yeerongpilly. Yeerongpilly residents need a strong advocate in parliament that believes in building communities not destroying them. I look forward to working to ensure that Yeerongpilly gets a representative that believes in and cares for our community in two years time.
