Branch News Update - July 2012

Annerley to join campaigns to protect workers rights

The Annerley Branch plans to conduct a mobilisation day on Saturday 4 August to support union campaigns aimed at protecting workers rights in Queensland.

Responding to growing community concerns over the Queensland Government's decision to cut public sector jobs, wind back services and attack hard fought for industrial rights, the mobilisation day will be the first of many such events for the local area.

Currently, the main public sector union, Together, is conducting an extensive community based campaign to highlight the adverse effects of not only the excessive number of jobs slashed from the Queensland public service, but also the loss of vital funding for many services across the state.

Concurrently, the Queensland Council of Unions (QCU), is waging its own public campaign to highlight the need for core workers rights to be protected - now all under threat by the LNP state government.

The Annerley Branch will aim to work extensively with both campaigns over the coming months, engaging with the local community about the importance of protecting industrial rights and our state services.
